What is Pediatric Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy supports children as they naturally explore and engage with the world around them. For little ones, daily 'occupations' include the meaningful activities of childhood, such as:

  • Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding

  • Solid Food Introduction

  • Mealtimes

  • Sleeping

  • Bathing

  • Getting dressed

  • Exploration and Play

  • Socialization

  • School participation

  • Hobbies

These movements and behaviors are best nurtured and supported with a calm, centered nervous system and a brain that makes meaningful connections.
Here are some of the specific areas where OT can help children and families:

  • Securely attach with primary caregivers

  • Feed and nurse with shared ease

  • Participate in caregiving routines

  • Explore and play

  • Develop and refine gross and fine motor skills

  • Enhance eye-hand coordination

  • Establish healthy eating habits and mealtime routines

  • Develop self-advocacy skills to communicate their needs effectively

  • Apply strategies for managing schedules and transitions smoothly
