When parents think about development, they often focus on the big milestones: rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, and walking.

But long before a baby reaches these visible milestones, their brain is busy mapping and integrating thousands of tiny movements and sensory experiences. Each shift of weight, turn of the head, reach of the arm, and push through the floor provides the brain with the variations it needs to build the foundation for more organized and efficient movement.

When some of these foundational pieces are missing, difficult, or inefficient, babies may get stuck and develop compensations that can make movement feel harder than it needs to be.

As these patterns are repeated, they can become a baby’s preferred way of moving and organizing themselves. Many of the movement habits we see later in childhood and adulthood have roots in these early developmental experiences. Supporting greater ease, adaptability, and body awareness early on can help expand a baby’s options for learning and movement as they grow.

You may be noticing:

  • “My baby feels stiff and keeps arching her back.”
  • “My baby cries during tummy time.”
  • “My baby only turns their head to one direction.”
  • “My baby only rolls one way.”
  • “My friend’s baby is already crawling and mine is not.”
  • “My baby scoots around on his butt instead of crawling.”

Sometimes parents notice these concerns long before a baby technically qualifies as delayed. Trusting those instincts early can often make a meaningful difference.

I help babies who are experiencing:

  • Developmental delays or missed milestones
  • Torticollis, flat spots on the skull, and asymmetries
  • Excessive tension, stiffness, or “stuck” movement patterns
  • Difficulty rolling, reaching, sitting, creeping, crawling, standing, or walking
  • Asymmetrical and unusual movement patterns
  • Difficulty breastfeeding on one side or uncomfortable being held on one side
  • Frustration during movement and floor play
